what changes were made to the Gillig chassis when SMC acquired it and made the Magnum D-series?
The Gillig chassis used on the early Beavers was described as "a Raised Frame Rail, 8” x 3.5” x .25” U-Channel - Double Flange, Huck-bolted, using SAE 410 grade 960 Steel Stock." This has been touted as very strong frame and desirable to have. Then In 1997, a new chassis was developed for ...

Re: Looking for Air System diagram for SMC Magnum chassis (D-Series, Blue Diamond)
You are correct Robert that the fittings changed from "push-to-connect" to standard "compression" fittings were done by me to fix air leaks. Almost all of the P-T-C fittings that have a swivel (a 90 degree fitting) tend to leak. I changed those out and still have a few more to do...

Re: Looking for Air System diagram for SMC Magnum chassis (D-Series, Blue Diamond)
I'm making an Air System diagram. I still have to trace a few air lines - but basically this is how it is set up.

Re: Looking for Air System diagram for SMC Magnum chassis (D-Series, Blue Diamond)
i can confirm that these tanks do have an "internal check valve". I can remove the end plug and look inside tank with a flashlight and see the vales. I also tested them and found they do leak a little. But since it is an internal leak - I'm just going to leave them alone for now and focus ...

Re: Looking for info on an SMC Slide where support beams go through Frame rail
Does this look there are a couple of roller a the the end of the inner support tube? If there are, and they are worn that might explain the tilt. That item is not identified and I can't see that end of the support arm. I did manage to get my camera up into the track (the part of track that is insid...

Re: Looking for Air System diagram for SMC Magnum chassis (D-Series, Blue Diamond)
Yes, I have full air brakes. There is a Wet/dry tank (actually both of those stacked tanks are "dual tanks" (two separate tanks in one). At least they look to be - there is a weld seam around both tanks). The air from the compressor comes in at the right side of bottom tank. It comes out t...

Looking for Air System diagram for SMC Magnum chassis (D-Series, Blue Diamond)
I'm looking for a diagram/schematic for the Air System that SMC used in the 2001-2005 Beaver Marquis and patriot Thunder. This would be the SMC Magnum "Blue Diamond" chassis. I'm trying to run down some air leaks and having a diagram of the air system would greatly help. Both sides (green ...

Re: Did the 2000 era SMC coaches have the fiberglass "crazing" issue
I have crazing of the paint on the entry door (the dark brown stripe) - and probably elsewhere, but its most noticeable on the door since it is at eye level entering the coach. However my coach is a 2005, and I'm asking/curious about the early 2000 SMC coaches with the fiberglass coming from SMC's s...

Did the 2000 era SMC coaches have the fiberglass "crazing" issue
My 2005 Beaver (built on SMC Magnum chassis) has the paint crazing issue. See photo below. I read that the fiberglass supplied by Crane Composites and Dow Corning had issues. Coachmen, Monaco, American and others all had the fiberglass checking/crazing issue from around 2000 to 20008. Appearently ev...

That info was from 2000. I believe the Sahara came out after 2000 (during the Monaco years).
