Re: Speedometer and Odometer acting like Tach

While you are working on the dash wiring, run a new ground for the gauges as well. I ran one from the front frame just for the gauges since they put everything in the dash on one ground point on my '96.

Re: Replacing Exterior Water Heater Door

Replacing the bezel is time consuming since some of them have sealant under them, but it's not an impossible task. There are usually 2 screws that go into the body of the water heater that hold the bezel in place - remove the screws, then gently pry the old bezel away from the body of your rig. I fo...

Re: Allison trans / no start power

You say new batteries - when whomever was in the process of removing the old terminals, did they mark them, or did they rely on color alone to know which wires went to which terminals? Sounds to me like at least one wire (small wire, not main battery ones) isn't connected to the proper terminal. If ...

Bizarre cold starting issue

This has happened twice now (2 years apart), both at the same campground with pretty much the same weather. Spent the night at Ely, Nevada (elevation about 6300 feet), and the temps dropped down below 40 degrees. Went to depart the next morning and the preheat would cycle on for about 2 seconds and ...

Re: Mileage and tank size - gauge malfunction

I've got a 96 30 foot with a 250hp Cat 3126, and not towing anything I can get close to 10mpg. Towing it goes down to about 8 - 8 1/2 (I do a steady 62 for my speed). As far as your tank, I'm thinking you have the same 90 gallon fuel tank that the vast majority of us have (you should be able to craw...

Re: Changing trans fluid

As Brett stated, that is the reservoir for your power steering and brake booster. There are some files here about changing the transmission fluid and that you have to use the newer fluid now (Allison has a superb website that tells you which fluids can be used now)

Re: 1997 Cat 3126 300hp

There may be both under your dash (I know on my 96 there's both), but the one that you want for the scangauge is the round one (it may be zip tied above the steering column brace). I had issues trying to plug my scangauge cord into the plug under the dash - it will go perfect into the one in the mai...

Re: Roof ladder addition?

I took my ladder off and went with a telescoping ladder instead - far more secure, and I can move it if I only need to look at something on one side versus having to get up on top to look. I avoid being up on top of mine any more than I have to (just a personal thing here). That being said, if you d...

Dash heater controls vacuum pump

Two years ago the vacuum pump for my dash controls ran what seemed like all the time, so we pulled everything apart and found a few of the vacuum lines were loose and fixed them. Seemed to fix it, so pressed forward. This year same thing - you change the selector valve, and nothing really changed in...

Re: Wheel Simulators

Troy, the wheel simulator studs have to go on top of the existing wheel studs - that's the way they are designed. Plus, your wheel lug nuts are torqued to 450 ftlbs - slightly more than your simulator (mine are snug, and that's it). You don't say if you have any kind of valve stem extensions - that ...
