Re: What is the Safari model lineup or hierarchy?
The SMC corp used Continental Panther as their top of the line model. Basicly an engine upgrade. Monaco eliminated Continental I suspect when they built the wonderful tag axle coach, Gazelle, Simba and Cheetahs were Monaco designed and built and of lesser quality than the SMC units. Lots of complain...

Re: air filter
NAPA has an annual filter sale, timing dependent apparently on the store where Wix Gold filters are on SALE 50% off. Most of the small filters are a great deal, the large filter being discussed is not always the best deal, I can not explain why this is so, just an observation made over a number of y...

Re: upgrade thermostat Penguin II
Think the mystery is solved! First I bought the wrong Penguin II and the associated recommended thermostat. What it all turned out to be was a dual zone, 10 key thermostat and associated electronics, none of which is identified as such in Dometic's literature nor in PPL's. I called Dometic"s su...

Re: Pacbrake and warning light promlem
Know that I have not driven the Z since I bought the Panther 5 some years back. If memory serves me correctly that little light was on to say that the PAC Brake was in an "active mode" ie on. I did not view it as a warning light. I was is very much like the little green light that comes on...

Re: who is the manufacturer of the "Air-over-Hydraulic" brake system?
Well late to this discussion, sorry. John first unfortunately not in your reference book. Yes two installed with a tie bar. I spent a lot of time crawling around a Patriot at the 30th Safari Party in Oklahoma. I was trying to determine if better than Hyd over Hyd. From conversations not so much so I...

Re: Looking for info on an SMC Slide where support beams go through Frame rail
Beaver, it is now up to you and a little ingenuity. I 'd love the challenge to help you if you were on my route East after a 2 month stay in Arizona. Look, sue some long blocks I would if you can use 4 X 4s to spread the load over a 3 or 4 foot length of the slides outer edge. It will take two of yo...

Re: 1998 Trek 454 Exhaust Manifold Cracked
Here are some thoughts...Ask me how I know...I was a Ford 460 hot rodder in a 1 ton Ford Super Van. By all means do the headers but that is not all. There is a package of things to do to make it really work efficiently. It takes effort and some time but oh goodness the results are amazing. Fuel mile...
