Can Dometic DM2852 replace Norcold 682?

Post by geantbrun »

Hi everyone,
My previous post was about the relative merits of the residential vs gas/elec refrigerator. Since then I've found a good opportunity, it's a reconditioned Dometic DM2852 that sells for 1000$. They say on this site that it can replace the Norcold 682 BUT they also say that...
Some of these replacements are the best matches but are not exact replacements, please review your current dimensions with this refrigerators dimensions.
So my question is : can someone confirm that the Dometic DM2852 is a valid replacement for the Norcold 682 ? Are the dimensions the only things to check or are there some other things like the locations of vents, etc ?

Thank you in advance,
Patrick

I suggest you download this Dometic installation manual and verify that everything about your coach is is compatible with, (or can be easily modified to be compatible with), the INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS on pages 3-9.

Thanks Mel, I'll take a look for sure. Out of curiosity, do you still have the original Norcold 682 in your Sahara 96?

Patrick,
I do.
BTW I believe that #1, (Level Your RV For Fridge Operation), is the most important of these 12 fridge tips: https://blog.goodsam.com/Keep-your-RV-fridge-cool/

I have found a small DC fan that uses two “D” batteries will help a tad too if you get one that fits on the fridge she’ll just under the cooling fins inside the fridge. It seems like it turns fairly slowly but it must move enough to help keep ice build up between the fins. It has a switch on the side and I have found it will run a week on a set of batteries. I haven’t had any more ice buildup since I started using it. Just be sure that after you’re done bouncing up and down on the road and you get parked to check that it’s still spinning as once I did have the batteries not make good contact and had to take them out and re-insert them but I took the opportunity at that time to pull out the metal tabs that make contact to make it a firmer contact on the batteries.

Beech Lane RV fridge fan.
