Continental Hurricane heather fuel line

Post by ianb1 »

I have looked for an answer but cannot find one - if I have missed something apologies in advance.
I have an air leak in my diesel fuel supply line to the Hurricane - I have traced immediately behind the heater compartment but it quickly disappears into the basement or at least along the side of it - not accessible. I would like to just replace the whole line but cannot find where it enters the main fuel tank or does it tee off an engine supply line somewhere ?
Any help greatly appreciated as always!!

Cheers,

Ian

Hi IanB

For curiousity sake what makes you think you have an air leak in the fuel line?

Good afternoon
Your Hurricane does not tee off the engine supply line. It may tee off your generator supply line. Both generator and Hurricane are set up so they will not draw fuel when the tank is below a certain point, which I have been told is somewhere between half and a quarter full. This way you never drain your fuel tank and have fuel to travel to a fuel stop.
This sounds like too easy a fix, but if your tanks are low that could be your problem. Adding fuel might be all you have to do.

Apologies for delayed reply - have been away.

Why do I think I have holes in the fuel line - I have an inline filter in the heater compartment - the small clear ones and I can see the bubbles entering into the filter to the point that the air is above the fuel and it starves itself.
Fuel level - I had read that earlier and I am pretty sure I have tried with various levels of fuel - definitely above half way and typically above 3/4 as I always fill up on the way home from a trip.

I'll have a poke around towards the generator this week and see if I can see anything for the fuel line there.

Thanks as always

One easy way to test for air leaks in the line would be to remove the fuel line going into the fuel filter. Get a fuel container with diesel in it and place a hose into the fuel and connect it to the filter to see if it will run. There is a fuel bleed line on top of the hurricane that has to be cracked open in order to clear the lines of air.

I had a similar issue to this on my new to me Sahara that ended up requiring multiple fixes. One of the issues was the hoses inside the heater were brittle and would leak at the connections causing an air leak, but the biggest issue was the fuel pressure regulator.
