Protecting the mural artwork

We recently acquired a 2001 Safari Trek with running wolves painted on the back. I would like to protect this wonderful piece of art from damage due to weather. Has anyone done anything to protect the artwork on their Safari? I was thinking clear coat but I want to make sure I don't damage it trying to protect it.

We had the front and back of our '99 clear coated to protect the mural, and to protect from bugs and debris while driving.
