Jupiter Saturn Grand Conjunction

Just thought I'd do a quick post about the big event a couple days ago, on the 21st.

Don't know if anyone got outside to see the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the southwest sky but here's a couple images taken from our campsite in Quartzsite, AZ.

One is of all my astro-toys. I set up the large scope for viewing, than the small scope for imaging, plus a regular camera on a tripod. Yeah, all that astro-gear and more is stuffed into the Serengeti. The second is through the small scope and shows what you'd see if you look through the big scope. I've labeled all the important objects. The third was taken the day before and shows how much the planets have moved relative to each other and also shows how Jupiter's moon have moved in their orbits. Note: all four Galilean moons are visible on the 20th along with a distant star that just by chance is inline with the moons. That too is a rare event.
