My Toad of choice (Chevy S10 4x4 pickup) can't be flat towed as original from the factory. So I've spent a couple days installing a driveshaft disconnect.

Jeff,
Since it's 4x4 do you need a disconnect for the front shift also?

No. It's sufficient to put it into 2WD which allows the front drive shaft to freewheel.
Also, on the S10 there is a vacuum operated coupling in the front differential.
So the front drive shaft is actually disconnected on both ends.

What year is the Chevy?

The transfercase in the S10 doesn't have a neutral position? I know on the of the S10 models with the push button controls, you could shift the transfercase into neutral by pushing the 4wd Lo and 4wd Hi buttons simultaneously.

BTW, the disconnect looks identical to the disconnect on my Aerostar van, except yours is shinny and new. :D

The 2nd generation S10 pickups use a transfer case that has no way to select neutral. Some 95 pickups had a manual transfer case but they are relatively rare. It's very difficult to find one that is not all beat up. Some 2nd generation blazers had the NV236 transfer case with the '4-button' engagement switch with a neutral like you describe but others did not. And some were "AWD" with no buttons. GM actually used 5 different transfer cases for S10s. NP207, NV231, NV233, NV236 and BW4472 but the '96 and up pickups only got the NV233.

The one I have is a 2002 ZR2
