INTERIOR SMELLS

I am having an issue with smells coming into RV. It has an oily smell. Doesn't seem as bad while going slow or stopped. The only thing I can think of is air pressure coming in around engine cover over bed. Also some smell in basement so closed heater vent to basement. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Please tell us what motorhome you have.

Answers for a front engine Trek will be off-base if you have a DP.

Thanks.

Perhaps a two pronged approach is best:

1. What is the source of the oil? Check for engine leaks. Check for excessive blow-by from crankcase breather. Check for over-filled crankcase. Also, check transmission and even rear axle (though a leak from the rear axle will have the unique high-sulfur smell of gear oil).

2. How does the smell get into the coach. Check gaskets around the openings from engine room to bedroom. Check for any cracks in the framing in the same area.

The only leak I can find is small one from pinion seal but doesn't smell like gear oil inside. Crank case breather exits at rear and have never seen any blow-by. Engine oil level is between marks if it's accurate. Will seal up engine access under bed and see if that helps. Thanks for the input and will post back any progress
