I believe every "Allison" transmission from years 1929 -2007 is an "Allison transmission from GM".

Mel,
That is incorrect. Automotive transmissions made by GM, such as the TH350, TH400, 700R4, 4L80, are GM transmissions and have nothing to do with Allison transmissions. When Allison was owned by GM, they were part of the Detroit Diesel Allison Division (DDA), and only made transmissions for medium and heavy duty trucks and off road construction equipment, like the earth mover trucks. BTW, on July 28th of 2007, GM sold the Allison division.

Since Allison Transmission Company was a division of GM in 1996 who then do you suppose made the MD3060 Allison transmission in my coach?

Mel,

My opologies, you are correct. I misread your post. That said, being that the the question was, whether Jones' transmission was an Allison or a GM 4L80, what was the point of your statement, that ["every Allison transmission from 1929 to 2007 was made by GM"]? How does that help Jones figure out which transmission he has? :?

Your opology is accepted.....(we all make mistakes). ;)

BTW I believe Jones has his answer.....the following is a copy of his 11/25 post to Trek Tracks on the subject:
Update. The pan is smooth. It also says Hydromatic on the side of the tranny. From what I have heard from another Kalahari owner(94) the Allison tranny was optional. The standard version for the Kalahari was the 4L80. Maybe thats why it was short lived and the Sahara was born!! It offered The Allison and a better diesel engine.

Mel is correct. The transmission is a GM 4L80E. Thanks for all the discussion and input.
