Hi friends
I have a quick question. The front wheels of my coach are having an abno rmal wear on the outer side of the tires. It's more prominent on the passenger side wheel. Is that an alignment issue or anything else? Thanks

'Update
Got my new XZA2 tires yesterday. I used the FMCA discount program and
was pleased with how it worked.
There was one minor problem with the purchase ----- the charge sent to
my credit card was $74,000 and change.
Though my credit is good and there is a high limit on the card - the
card co., balked at that charge.
In Texas we love to horse triad and haggle over price - so - after some
negotiations the price was $2,904 plus
stems, balance, and fees for the the 6 tires. Not too bad.

'Jim,
I for one would like to know how they hold up over time. For years I was a true believer in Michelin. Today I think like Mercedes, they have lost their way. Instead of sticking with the tried and true building the best out there, they today, build a lot of junk or the junk has found its way into the good stuff as well. I am running the same size in a Goodyear HSA. Turns out the cost difference will be the mount and balance. I paid $3,000 for the set mounted and balanced.

'John,
I was replacing 8 yr old XZA2s with new ones. The old ones (with which
I have been pleased)
looked almost new with little to no cracking.
The new ones have the same pattern. The only thing I see that is
different is the word "Green" is no longer
on the side wall (or is on the inside)

'Jim,

Thank you for the feedback! People rarely give feedback on tires at the end of their service life, which is when the information is most useful. Instead you usually get feedback and comments on tires when they are new, and how great they are. Of course new tires are usually great, it's how they perform throughout their "life cycle" is the information that is useful.

Did you happen to look at the inside of those old tires? If yes, did they appear to look in good shape on the inside?

Did your coach handle and ride well with these tires?

Tire history (was:Tires)

Post by mel96safari »

'John
My Coach is currently on the 4th set of 6 tires.

I "aged out" 2 sets of Goodyear 9R22.5 G159 tires.
The 1st set, (original on my coach from SMC), were replaced in '03, (at 52K miles).
The 2nd set, (also Goodyear G159 tires), were replaced with Michelin XZE tires in 2011, (after another 70K miles).

The 3rd set of 6 tires, (Michelin 9R22.5 XZEs), developed sidewall cracks 3-1/2 years later...and
were replaced under warranty in 2014... at a cost to me of $870, ($45 per tire).

My coach is currently riding on that set of "warranty replaced tires"..... however they were already nearly 4 years old when Michelin supplied them in Nov of 2014... they were manufactured in April of 2011, (per the DOT date stamp).

Mel
'96 Sahara,
(currently on a set of 6 year old tires... "new to me"  only 3 years ago.).
