Emergency Start

Post by rbeals6062 »

'I have a new Safari Damara Touring Sedan (GM engine)with an emergency
start button. Is there a simple way to determine which way the
emergency start works. For example, does the engine battery jump start
a dead chassis battery or does a charged chassis battery jump start a
dead engine battery. Thanks Ron'

The chasis batteries augment the engine batteries while the switch is depressed. Sort of like an energy boost for the engine batteries. RG

All the coach's I've seen, the emergency start is basicly providing
power from the coach batteries to the chassis batteries. Giving
yourself the ability to jump start yourself. Hold down the switch, turn
the key, the engine starts, let off the the switch.'

'Ron,
In my eyes, the chassis batteries and the engine batteries are the same
thing. The emergency start button you are talking about activates a
solenoid that completes a circuit connecting the house batteries to the
chassis batteries. It makes no difference which way the power flows at that
point, but it will go from the more charged batteries to the lesser charged
batteries. This will allow you to use available battery power (assuming at
least one of the two battery banks has a decent charge) to start either you
engine or generator (assuming you have one). For it to work, you must hold
the switch until you have started the engine that didn't have enough battery
reserve to start off it's own battery.
