Joe,

On my 98, the negative wires had white insulation and from the pictures it looks like the positive were either red or black. Check under the flex tubing for the color. There would never be a fuse in a ground wire either.

I don't know if the wires were marked but mine had the service stenciled on the wiring every 12" inches.

I'm betting that at least 2 of the positives you have should be ground.

Tell me how many pins are in the ECU connectors and I'll tell you which pins should be the ground for a continuity test.

      Joe,

Last year a Doug had a similar problem,
and his problem ended up being a broken wire on the back
side of the service bay, where you can start the engine
remotely. So I would suggest checking there too. I know this
may seem repetitive, but considering what Jim E. mentioned
yesterday, I would suggest to triple check that a 12 gauge
ground wire did not slip away some where and is hiding on
you, as by your description, it sounds like you are short of
a small gauge ground wire..

I

will recheck the wiring and connections to the
batteries

today.  I checked the fuses on the wires yesterday.  Is
it

reasonable to assume without the air intake heater and
check

engine not illuminating the RV wouldn't crank.

Assuming the bulbs are not just burned out (which is not
my

case...I refuse to believe both went out

 simultaneously).

 Without taking

pictures...there are 3 10-12 gauge wires that go the

positive post of the front battery.  2 seem to run
back

somewhere into the coach and the other comes into the

battery from the left side.  There is a single 10-12
gauge

wire that runs to the front negative side of the batter
in

the same bundle from the previously mentioned

 2.

 I don't think it is

a battery issue but will check that also.

Check the voltage on the battery bank when

cranking. You might have a bad/shorted plate in one
battery

giving low voltage and it will crank but not start. I
had

the same problem..... year old batteries but would not
hold

up when cranking, even though at no load I had full
voltage.

' I would second John's suggestion as well. I have had so many problems Iike this I forgot about that one. I got caught twice.
I removed the batteries and over looked one wire when I put them back. There were a lot of additions over the years, some non-functioning and incorrectly wired. IE. no fuses, direct to the battery bank.
Anyway the one wire I didn't connect held in a relay during when starting, pulled in by the ignition switch. without that wire it would crank but not start.

Thanks to all for the quick replies.  I
will recheck the wiring and connections to the batteries
today.  I checked the fuses on the wires yesterday.  Is it
reasonable to assume without the air intake heater and check
engine not illuminating the RV wouldn't crank.
Assuming the bulbs are not just burned out (which is not my
case...I refuse to believe both went out
 simultaneously).
 Without taking
pictures...there are 3 10-12 gauge wires that go the
positive post of the front battery.  2 seem to run back
somewhere into the coach and the other comes into the
battery from the left side.  There is a single 10-12 gauge
wire that runs to the front negative side of the batter in
the same bundle from the previously mentioned
 2.
 I don't think it is
a battery issue but will check that also.

Check the voltage on the battery bank when
cranking. You might have a bad/shorted plate in one battery
giving low voltage and it will crank but not start. I had
the same problem..... year old batteries but would not hold
up when cranking, even though at no load I had full voltage.

' Yes, that is true. The wires were corroded off those two switches (START, STOP) and the relay back there was essentially disconnected.....it was a mess...and still is. But it is now a bypassed mess.
