Replacing brake rotors & pads in Houston

Post by Jim Bowen »

'I need to have the brake rotors and pads replaced on my '98 Safari
Serengeti.  Does anyone have a recommendation for a reputable place to
have this done in the Houston, TX, area?  I am new to having to deal
with repairs since my husband died a few months ago.

Thanks for any suggestions.

'Annette,I’m also a member of the yahoo safari and friends website and I’m sorry to hear of your loss. I’m located a little further north from Houston (about 20-miles south of Ft. Worth, TX) and I don’t know anyone in that area so I’m unsure if I can help. However, I’m wondering what you intend doing with it and why you’re concerned about replacing the brakes? Are you planning to keep it and travel in it? Was the brakes a problem noticed in the past, but not looked at? If you’re planning to sell it, it might be easier to just disclose the issue to the prospective buyer and let them deal with it (unless the brakes aren’t working at all). When I bought my 1998 Safari 40' Serengeti in 2015; I bought it knowing about a few issues it had and the seller and I adjusted the price accordingly. This worked good for both of us as I’m pretty handy with making my own repairs and he probably received more for it than he would have had he paid to have a couple of those issues repaired. It’s just a few thoughts that I thought I’d share with you.

'AnnetteI question whether your rotors need to be replaced. My coach needed disc brake pads for the 1st, and only, time at 143,000 miles... but the original rotors where, and are, okay.
As for a shop ..most truck repair shops service motor home brakes.(I suggest you Google "truck brake service Houston, TX")
