Dear No Name,

You have me confused about the engine shut off. There is no key in the engine bay; there should be a push button for start and stop. In order for these to work, you must first turn on the key at the dash.

Now, the start button will start the engine. In order to stop the engine, you must hold the stop button until the engine comes to a complete stop. If you are done, don't forget to turn off the key.

This is a one time courtesy answer; in the future, no name, no answer, just ask Mel.

'Jamison,

It is possible that your ingnition solenoid is stuck closed. I believe
that on the newer coaches like yours, it is located in your electrical
bay, the most forward left compartment, the one in front of your left
front wheel.
You will need to test this solenoid with engine off and key off. The
small signal wire to the solenoid should not have any voltage with the
key off. Also, there should be voltage present only on one of the two
larger cables connected to that solenoid. If this tests correctly, do
the same test with the engine running and key off. Let us know the
test results.

BTW, did you buy any chance just had your alternator replaced???

'Willie.

I hate to chime in on this subject again, but he already got three out of the four. Make, well if he’s on here I would assume Safari? If not he’s got worse problems. In his question he states the model as Serengeti, year as 2000.

Just sayin.......standing up for the brow beaten everywhere.

'Jim,

To me, it appears that Mr. No Name (aka Jamison), can not shut his
engine off with the key, so he has to use the service bay stop
switch...

'Had the same problem.  Your ignition buss in the panel beneath the driver's window is being back powered.  Check that when you cut off the ignition switch it is not powered on 12v.

'It's got a 350 cat w/Allison 6 speed, the ignition buss in the front EL bay is shutting off, The fan,,AC,,heat, etc  all that stuff shuts off too. but the engine keeps running, I have to use the stop button in the engine bay, when I start it everthing works as it should with the key.. I've been trying to find a schematic for this coach but all I've been able to find is 1 from a 2005 cheetah and they're similar but not the same, I've got a solenoid under the bed in the rear that isn't opening but I haven't been able to trace it out yet.'

'Jamison,

Please, kindly, sign your post, as I/we have no idea what year and
model your coach is, so we are just forced to guess the type of layout
you have. On top of that, there are multiple members with electrical
issue, and it is almost impossible to keep track. If you already
posted on this topic, please include the previous description in your
last or initial post, as it jogs our memory and lets us easily and
quickly review your issue. I am more than willing to help, but the
moment my time is limited and on top of that my internet connection is
poor, so I don't have time digging for info. Please don't take
offense, but work with me.

Ok, after rereading your post, I think, if I remember correctly, that
you are the fellow whose engine won't shut off. If that is correct,
then you didn't answer the important question I asked, when I replied
to your initial post. The question was, did you recently install a new
alternator???
The reason I am asking, is if the alternator was installed
incorrectly, it WILL cause back feeding to your ignition, not allowing
the engine to shut off. So, if your answer is yes, please provide all
details on what brand and model of alternator it is and take pictures
of the backside of it. Make sure you take a few far away shots so the
wiring route can be seen too.

If you have not replaced the alternator, check the wiring on the back
side of the alternator to see if there is a diode on one of the wires,
if yes, the diode could have failed, causing the back feeding. Also
check and test your ignition switch for proper function, it could have
shorted out internally.
