One person Bleeding brake caliper techniques?

Post by Bilmac36 »

'SF’s,
Proven techniques that worked for you?

I’m considering starting motor, press brake pedal, place 25 to 50lb weight on brake pedal or board braced to chair, attach my HF MightyVac on bleed screw valve, build up vacuum, break bleeder valve, retighted.
Repeat.

Thanks for your time in responding.

'Willie,

Go to Harbor Freight and and buy a brake bleeder, it does not cost
that much and won't require micky mousing with brake pedal and
weights. Considering that in your climate, you have to bleed often, it
will be a low cost worth while investment.

'Tilt the steering wheel down as far as it will go, cut a sorta flexi board little longer than distance to brake pedal depressed, bleed, repeat. Save that harbor freight money and time running to store for a 24 pack of adult malt beverages, relax and enjoy. It worked well for me, as well as my other vehicles. :)'

'John, the Mighty Vac (is a Harbor Freight)  I referenced is a vacuum brake bleeder.  Are you referring to a different one? The Mighty Vac is a hand pump with gauge, shows the vacuum being placed on the line. Thanks, Willie, Connie is ‘95 Continental, 8.3L, Ally 6spd

'Willie,

I could not remember the name. If that is what you have, you don't
need to pump the pedal nor hold it down. That machine will bleed the
brakes at the bleeders as it is intended.

'Good morning and Thanks fellas for the good suggestions.I have this hand pump MightyVac model. Though I did note an air compressor assisted model in YouTube, but was not able to find it in their online catalog. https://www.harborfreight.com/mityvac-vacuum-pump-39522.html But either I have a blockage in my line (which I don’t think I do) or it simply doesn’t place enough vacuum on it.I was being inpatient yesterday, wanting to get the rim & tire back on and things tidied up.I will have a house full of extended family for a teenager’s B’day party today. May try to snag my great nephew for a bit and show him some of the work that goes into keeping big boy toys.
Appreciate yalls inputs.R/wmWillie, Connie is ‘95 Continental, 8.3L, Ally 6spd

Harbor Freight brake bleeder (was: One person Bleeding brake calipe

Post by mel96safari »

'WillieI use this Harbor Freight brake bleeder: https://www.harborfreight.com/brake-fluid-bleeder-92924.htmlImagehttps://www.harborfreight.com/brake-fluid-bleeder-92924.html

It uses compressed air, (not a hand operated vacuum pump).

However because of the location of my master cylinder I can't use the Auto-Refill bottle so a helper filling the master cylinder is nice to have
With 2 people flushing the entire hydraulic brake system of my coach is a 45 minute job.
