Tires and date of manufacture

Post by Bilmac36 »

'Ok gals and fellas,
Here’s a question for you. At what point do you raise the BS flag and tell a tire dealer you do not want tires manufactured two years ago that he is trying to sell you or has sold you as new tires?
If you go in and buy tires for your coach or auto, 4, 3 or two wheeled, what is acceptable to you for paying the ‘new’ price?
For me, if the date of manufacture is over three months old I typically will pass. I have gotten to the point now where I ask the question, what is the date code on the tires?
In particular for the group in here that run the standard vs metric tire sizes, do you do anything special to ensure you are getting fresh rubber?
Those 8r19.5 or 9r19.5 are the size of the latest heartburn story I’m aware of. Put on 4 tires, steerable, on rear dated 3717 this week! And the person paid good money for them. Tends to elevate my BP rapidly.

'I agree. I had 2 new installed on my 35’ safari last year one was 4 months old and the other over 2 years old. I run my 22.5 for 7 years. I made them replace the old one. It is better to inspect each one before installation to verify you are getting what you pay for. It is an extra hassle to do this as they will sell what they have and never check the dates.

' Good Dwayne for being on top of it. I tell them the moment after I order the tires that nothing older than 4 months since I am the one paying. Truckers do not care since they wear them out pronto! Tires that were put on the Panther when I bought it were 2 months old... I smiled!

Trimmed posts (was: Tires and date of manufacture)

Post by mel96safari »

'JohnApparently Bill inadvertently trimmed/deleted the message, (or messages?), that he was replying to when he posted the following: "same thing in the 2001 Zanzibar I have for sale", in message #427969.
The Subject of message #42768, which preceded Bills post, is: "Engine Year/Coach Year different".(That's the reason I asked Bill: "Same thing as WHAT?" in message #42771)

BTW I receive and reply to message online, (via email).....I don't get the "digest"
