Help needed for a nice lady with a Safari in need

Post by iradiate1967 »

'Hi all. This isn’t for me but for a friend in North Platte with a 1994 Safari Sahara. She put a lot of time and money into it and it’s beautiful but motor may be dead. Overheated on the highway ( blown hose ) and the mobile tech told her she could limp home if she added water. Well, it didn’t work and the mechanics said her Cummins motor is gone and 10-14k to fix. I’d hate to see her lose her coach and her plans to retire in it. Can anyone chain in and tell me what they think and engine replacement should cost if the estimate is not correct? I’m going to create a folder showing you this beautiful coach maybe someone can help. Everything else on the couch is new except the tires and so I really hope to be able to help her thank you.

' Also I've been trying to find out how the new California smog Laws affect us there are nine States involved. Any diesel vehicle over 14,000 gross weight pounds and older than 2003 cannot be relicensed in 2020 according to the new smog laws.

'Dale,
Please look into this.  It is my understanding (yes, in Texas, so not completely up to speed in California) that RV's are exempt.

'Only possible reasonable solution would be to find a decent used engine in a RV salvage yard and a mechanic to swap it out.   Not a shop or dealer. v/r,

' Yes Brett, but we can get over it. She spent a bunch up front now the cheapway out is another engine used or otherwise. It is a pure value call and not ours to make. If she had a big pile to begin with she might have done something differently.
