'To add to what Joe and others have said regarding stainless steel
bolts, it is important to lube the threats other wise the threads will
gall. As Bill E. would say, ask me how I know...
So, be very careful is using stainless bolts for the water pump. It
would seam like a safer bet to use grade 8 and liberal amount of good
quality anti-seize compound.

'If you are interested in understanding fasteners there is a very good article in the Dec 2019 issue of Hot Rod magazine starting on page 74. Covers a lot for just part 1 even if a lot of it comes from a aftermarket supplier.

'Enjoyed reading this thread. Being in the ‘weeds’ is easy to get to when working on older machinery &/or those exposed to the harsher elements mother nature can kick out.The one thing I didn’t read (and perhaps was implied,) but has been my biggest aid in getting seized bolts and broken studs out, is Patience! Patience can prevent us from becoming a patient. :o) If time allowed then I’ve walked away from a frustrating, irritating mess I’ve gotten myself into and applied the liberal amounts of penetrating oil and depending on the situation used a descent tap and die set to remove the bolt or stud. Also a heat gun perhaps a time or two. I realize there are repair jobs in situations and locations that time may be of the essences, but if patience can be mustered up then highly recommend it. Clearing the cobwebs, being hydrated, walking away, etc can pay dividends when tackling the PITA bolt.I was once married to a sweet Southern Bell whose Dad had her pegged, ‘she could tear up an anvil!’  She was a blessing to me, but not one to hold a wrench. LOLY’all take care and keep the great info flowing...where ever this group lands I hope to continue reading the novice and master opinions and threads.(Mr. Bill E, I screen shotted, circled and starred that bit of wisdom you passed along to file in my folder. I hope I don’t have to use it anytime soon, but that there seems like a gold nugget.)R/Willie, Connie is ‘95 Continental, 8.3L, Ally 6spd
