New member to the group - Hoping for some help with a tire question. I recently purchased a 1998 Safari Sahara 3044 from the original owner who's no longer able to keep it due to health reasons. It's been well cared for and has 73,000 miles on a Cat 3126 will all the service records since it was new. We're very happy with the purchase.
However, I need to replace the tires. I've been looking over tons of posts on tire sizes and which ones could/should be used since the originals were a bit under rated. I'm a bit confused and was hoping someone could help me.
The unit originally came with 9R22.5 and it currently has 10R22.5 on it. I'm somewhat limited with suppliers for both those sizes and everything I read says the closest metic size is either the 255/75R/22.5 or a 265/80/R22.5 but both of those show they need a wider rim than the 6.75 that came with the motorhome.
My questions is, what is the closest metric size to the original tire that will fit a 6.75" wheel width?
I'd like to find a tire that is a common size if one needs to be replaced on the road but I also would like it to fit the stock wheels - Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
