'The information on the posted link clearly talks to PUBLIC groups, saying they will cease to exist, and be converted to private groups.  It doesn't seem clear either way as to whether the lost features apply to both public and private groups or just public groups.

'That notification is alarming, *but it's possible that the sky isn't falling), because it may not pertain to this Yahoo group.

Yahoo states the following in answer to the question "What will happen to the site?" :
"The Yahoo Groups site will continue to exist, however, all public groups will be made private or restricted...Any new group members will need to request an invite or be invited by an admin.
Admins will still be able to manage various group settings, though some functionality will be limited".
Safarifriends is NOT a "public Yahoo group site".... it is, (and has been since the owner Mr, G founded it in 2000), a "private/restricted Yahoo group".

'Mel,

Knowing Yahoos track record, I don't think it is that simple, and I
don't think it is worth taking the chance on assuming. Once the info
is gone, it gone for good.

Here is what it states at the beginning:
Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content
to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 21, you won't be able to
upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all
previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed.
You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded.

What features will go away?

Files
Polls
Links
Photos
Folders
Calendar
Database
Attachments
Conversations
Email Updates
Message Digest
Message History

So, it seems like yahoo is leaving a skeleton version of groups that
can only communicate via email. This goes for all groups, and on top
of that, there further seem to state that there will no longer be an
option for public groups. Do realize that the initial message is
addressing ALL groups. As it states "Yahoo Group Site", this means
Yahoo Groups period. Also, consider this, if Yahoo meant only public
groups, it would not have posted the message on this group, knowing
that it is a private group...

'r/wm,

It is interesting that you point out the yahoo garage. So many are
dependent on this electronic cyber stuff and then on day it's all
gone. Now days everyone is foolishly dependent on the so called
"CLOUD'', I can just see, a decade or two down the road, people's
precious photos will be all gone without warning, or if they do give a
warning, it will be "pay big bucks bucko or you will lose all your
precious photos and files...

'OK,  so, I reached out to the guru who migrated the Diesel RV Club website from Yahoo and the Foretravel  website from Yahoo to become the ForeForum.
If we have anyone (administrator, moderator, etc) who has interest and knowledge of this computer stuff, I can put you in touch with them. Just e-mail me-- I will be happy to facilitate this.

Website development is NOT my area of expertise, but would like to see the knowledge of this group continue to be offered to Safari coach owners.
