Eliminating the fluorescent light fixes was on the list to update the coach.
This was a quick afternoon project I got the idea from a monico coach that had been updated inside. Over all the feel is much warmer feeling and no hum from the fluorescent. While I had considered the strip led lights. It still did not bring the interior feel I was looking for as it kept the fluorescent fixture. Over cost was around 25 dollars a light fixture.
Cut the board to 13 3/4. You should have 10 and some scrap.
With the scrap piece set up the router to your preferred profile.
For the main holes. I placed them 2 1/2 from each edge and the in the center. Overall it gave it good spaceing.
Mounting holes I pulled a light down and used it as a template. Then used a 3/8 bit to counter sink the holes so you done see the screws. I did not make plugs for the screw holes but still might.
A quick stain to match your cabinets and some clear and your good to go.
I also reused the same screws to mount them back in place.
Side Note: You can also use the puck lights to replace your under cabinet lights and the cockpit lights under the tv.

Sounds like you did a nice job there is a simpler way see attachments.
After rereading your Post I now understand that you did not like the looks of the cheap fluorescent fixtures.

Re: Eliminating the florescent light fixtures.
I had thought about the led tubes but when I looked they were around 15 to 20 a tube. Maybe in the bulk pack the are less. I can post a better picture tomorrow of all of the lights on.
