Norcold 1200 Replacement - Residential Fridge Upgrade

Post by Safaritoonces »

This is a project to replace the Norcold 1200 double door propane fridge with a Haier residential fridge in a 2000 Safari Continental motorhome. The Haier is 71″ by 28″, 15 cu. ft. and high efficiency rated.

Nicely done! I wish I'd thought about relocating the refrigerator outlet.

I was just barely able to get the Norcold out the front door after stripping off the doors, hinges and the cooling unit. My plan B was to do what you did and cut the box up. The Haier refer is perfect for that area because it doesn't have handles which is nice since the door to the bathroom is already narrow. Thankfully the Fisher & Paykell I installed has handles that don't stick out very far. Before installing I was a little worried that we might be bumping into the handles, but that hasn't happened.

According to my battery monitor, my refrigerator only draws a little over 1 amp @110v. I see about 10 amps coming out of the batteries. These new refers are very efficient. I'm sure you'll really like having the extra room. We've been full timing with our F&P for over a year now and really like it.

I like what you've done with your light above the fridge too. I just gutted the fixture and installed LED strips so the doors of a taller fridge would hit the lenses.

Thanks for sharing your project.

Robert,

Super nice work. Looking forward to an update with finished pictures as well as some pics of the inside of the fridge and freezers.

Thank you, sorry that I missed your post. I have been enslaved with major house a garage repairs and have not done much on the Safari. Here are some pictures, but I think there are pictures in the cabinet project for the drawer alongside the fridge.
