Antifreeze/coolant reservoir leak

I know this topic was covered on the old site but....4 days ago I noticed a leak in my coolant reservoir tank, 1/2 inch long crack on one of the bottom curves. I drilled both ends of the crack, cleaned the area and sanded lightly then applied fibreglass resin, cloth, resin and waited 36 hours..same leak. I removed everything and cleaned then applied my marine putty mix and this stopped it about 90% but not completely. Yesterday afternoon I opened up the crack, scraped it clean then applied JB weld epoxy and will see what happens today. If this does not work I need some advice to quick fix for now. I also need to know what you all have found for replacement tanks. Thank you.

I have not used this but I saw this and it might be what you need. I am going to get some as a repair kit.

Plastic replacement tanks are available here: (https://www.amazon.com/Ford-F6HZ-8A080- ... B000O07XPQ)...and from Ford.
There are also steel: (https://price.salespider.com/cpida-6557 ... -reservoir), and brass:
(http://www.thebrassworks.net/shop/Parts ... _info.html), replacement tanks available.

That tape looks great. If you try it out let me know how it works. It would be excellent for a quick fix.
Thanks Mel. I found one, plastic, in LA and i'm going to pick it up in Barstow, CA this afternoon...then install tomorrow morning. I'll keep the other one and pressure test it...just in case. Thanks you for posting to this. Ken

Ken,

It is probably too late (have not been on the group for a few days), but the new plastic tanks don't last long, (one to two year max and than they crack). You are better off buying either steel or aluminum. The one source I found last year is by far the best deal. It is an aluminum tank for only $231 :D

Here are a few more links to the various tank options:

I replaced my tank about 3-4 yrs ago still ok. I carry the old one as it wasn't leaking when I changed it.
I must have missed that metal tank @$231.
Bookmarked that site will definetly go that way next time

Thanks John

Yes, thank you very much John. Between yours and Mels sights...if in 2 years I need another...these will be my go to places. 231 bucks looks like a good deal for sure. Ken

John,
The link you list for the aluminum $231 tank doesn't give me the opportunity to get any information except a photo. Is it the same size as the original Ford tank? How do you order it? Telephone only?

Gary,

The tank is the same size. Yes, I would give them a call, it seems like there are still a lot of places in TN that are old school, so likely you will need to order over the phone.

Let us know how you make out.
