Is your friend willing to build more of these tanks?
I and I'm sure some others on this group would like to upgrade to a good quality tank like you have.
If there is enough demand for this tank, maybe a bulk purchase could be arranged, where your friend could build a bunch of them in one shot?
Let me know your thoughts.

Pricing seems to run from around $180 for plastic, $231 for aluminum, to something over $400 for steel. Any other options out there?
Has anyone replaced their surge tank (the Ford equivalent) with a metal surge tank in the past couple years, and can comment about their experience with a metal tank, and
specifically if the coolant level window is visible from the back end of the coach.

On the steel tank from Beaver there are two welded in 1/2 inch NPT site glass "bungs" ... (you put the coolant site glass in either side ... and a plug in the unused opening).
I suggest you contact the seller of any other tank and inquire about their site glass location(s).
NOTE: the original Ford p/n F6HZ-8A080-B .

I had tried to get him to make more. This was a favor. Any welder that can weld aluminum can do.
1 ea 28” 6” aluminum pipe
1 ea flat plate for ends
2 ea 1/4” pipe alum weld fittings
1 ea 1” pipe “”. “”
2 ea 1/2” pipe.alum weld fittings
2 ea sight glass from amazon or summit
1 ea radiator aluminum weld fitting
1 1” pipe barbed fitting
1 1/4” x 3/8” pipe to barb
2 flat plates to mount tank on old tank mounts.
