Yes, I am getting active on this board again!

Been planning to get some things for routine maintenance. First time I am doing some of this on my own to save money and give me something to do. I had my 3126B air filter replaced a couple of years ago and started looking for the replacement. Western States CAT replaced it last time and used a WIX 46857 air filter. It was $151.63 for the part. Fast forward a year and a few months from April 2021 and can't even find one except O'Reilly's and they are wanting $292.00! Amazon doesn't have it listed and the Baldwin PA4630 is $269.00! Goodness me!

Well the good thing is only 6K miles since it was last replaced so maybe inflation will relax some for next year and bring the price down. I can't even find an air filter for 3126B with my serial number on parts.cat.com . Looked into a few other cross references and either no stock or very high price. K&N's and other reusable's let too much residual dust in that is out of specs compared to paper filters.

Anyone come across a glut of air filters, give me a shout so I can get one in my parts arsenal.

The last time I shopped for an air filter Rock Auto had the best price - $146. It's out of stock now just like everywhere else but there's a good chance they will have the best price when they have more. You can't find it by application but if you search 'WIX 46857' it will come up. They have it erroneously listed as a transmission filter which may slow down their sales somewhat.

Yes.

Donaldson has been in the filter business for 100+ years.

I bought an an air filter for my Cat 3126 two weeks ago at the shop below. They sourced it elsewhere but got it to me in 4 days. With shipping cost it was still under $200.

Side note- Last May when repositioning our Safari to NW from Arizona I developed a buzzing alarm under my dash. It came from a buzzer attached by vacuum line attached to the 3-4" black vacuum sphere(not certain what that is called) that lives down there. When the buzzer sounded my engine also lost boost and power. It seemed to indicate my air filter was past due for replacement. Learn something every trip.

Thanks, all. I guess I am just in denial that the Cat dealer can sell me a Wix for $151 a little over a year ago but now the Wix can’t be had for under $200. I know we are in inflationary times but my gosh.
