In process of changing filters and fluid in transmission and found out that transmissions of certain age use square cut o-rings on filter covers. I got new filters and only round o-rings in kit. Mine had the square cut rings. Is it ok to use the round ones instead? Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question, but it would not be a bad idea to give Allison tech support a call. Have your model and serial numbers for them, and they should be able to provide you the needed info.

I did. They sent me to sevice center and they didn’t know anything about the square o-rings in older 3060’s

Ugh. Did you actually call the Allison factory number or the dealer service department?

Hopefully Brett Wolfe with chime in. He is very knowledgeable on this stuff. If he doesn't reply, try sending him a PM.

Sure wish I COULD help.

But every Allison (not aftermarket) filter kit for the 3000 transmissions going back to the 1993 model year had all the gaskets/seals needed for all the various year transmissions.

Said another way, you only use the style that you take off and throw the rest away. I would contact Allison Corp: Allison help line 800 252 5283.

Have both your transmission model and serial number (metal plate on driver's side of transmission) and the PN of the Allison filter kit you bought.

The square cut gaskets are Allison part # 29501469. Mel and I discussed this back in 2021 on this forum. I had a hard time finding square ones anyway, so I reused my old ones as they were just a separation seal and not a "leaker" issue seal. I am happy with that!

I spoke to my mechanic that does a lot of work on RV’s and he told me just to use round ones that came in kit. I did that and seems to be working fine. Also used gaskets that came with kit. They weren’t on mine either. Thanks
