Calipers, pads and rotors for a 2000 Sahara, what and where to get?

Post by map40 »

New to me, I need a full brake job in the front axle. What do I need and where do I buy it from? Thanks for all the info!

map40,

Here are some part numbers that should fit your coach. I say should, because Safaris are known for oddball exceptions, so I cover my tail. ;)

Note: pads and caliper are the same front to back

Larger Brakes (10 lug wheels):
Caliper (NAPA part #) : SE8556 (2.88 inch bore).
Brake pads are NAPA part # UP-7149-M (D236)

Again, these are NAPA part numbers, but by using the information in parenthesis, you can get the parts in most auto parts stores.

I need time to try and dig for rotor numbers. That said, unless your rotors are severely damaged, usually they are reusable.

Edit: Try this for rotor part number: FRONT ROTOR 9K MV23122703
If you do actually need rotors, it might be best to bring the rotor to the auto parts store, so the can measure it and look it up. Then calipers are Dayton, I don't know if that will help them to determine the rotor type. If I recall correctly I think it is a 14.75 inch rotor.

OK, I bought the parts. The brake pads were only available @ NAPA, and they costed as much as the calipers. Tomorrow I will give it a shot.
By the way, the brake pads were not available at Advance or Autozone. They could not be found as D236, but they showed up as FFL236 or H236. In both cases they were in the system, but not available to order. They were common parts with 86-93 Ford 350 trucks.
I'll post updates tomorrow.

Map40,

The important part of the D236 number is the numeral section, every company uses different lettering, but usually the number will get you the right pad. For an example Auto Zone uses MKD236, (M stands for metallic pad in their coding), see the Autozone link: https://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-tra ... 20872_1610
Here is the link to the calipers: https://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-tra ... iper-front
I don't know what NAPA charged you, but Autozone's prices are decent for these havy duty parts...
Also, the pads fit various Ford medium duty trucks and buses, ranging from '84 to '95.
BTW, no, the Ford F350 did not use that size pads, if they did use pads that big, those pickup trucks would stop on a dime. :D

Here are some of the Ford medium duty models that the pads fit on:

OK, so all ready do do the work, took one wheel off, looked at the caliper, from the back they looked similar, from the front, not even a chance!
I did see 2 numbers on the calipers I have, maybe somebody can recognize them. Caliper 4153222 and bracket 425330. The have the caliper at Advance, but it does not look quite the same. Also, my calipers don't have the banjo bolt, the brake like is plumbed directly. Here are some pics, maybe somebody has seen this configuration before:

OK, I found the calipers by looking at the numbers of the castings. I'll keep the trend updated.

Brakes are done. Everything went smooth, too smooth actually. Flushed the fluid, bleed the calipers. The I decided to grease the front end. Bought a new grease gun with Mobil1 grease. First grease fitting, the gun go stuck. Took me 1 hour to get it out. It is always the most stupid things...

Map40,

If you could please post the part numbers for your brake caliper and pads, and what ever else you may have replaced.
