DEX II power steering fluid

Post by stemo76 »

Fixing an oil leak I had to remove the power steering pump. I need to replace the lost fluid. The res says DEX II. I assume that DEX III fluid will be fine. Anybody know anything different or if DEX VI would be ok.

Strange to me that it says DEX II since research tells me that it was replaced in the market early 1990s. Guess someone had some surplus reservoirs?

DEXIII or DEX/MERC should be ok, just make sure it is not synthetic. Synthetic, especially DEXIV and above is a thinner viscosity and will affect how the hydroboost and can also cause potential leaks. Read the back label of the bottle and make sure it's not synthetic...

Thanks, I guess Napa DEX/MERC it is then.

Started up the motor last night, looks like the leak is fixed and all dummy lights and gauges are still working.
