Replacement Parking Brake Cable (rear)

Post by ccastle »

I need a replacement parking brake cable that goes from the hydraulic/spring actuator to the lever that applies the drum parking brake on my 98 Safari Sahara coach. The original is broken so I currently have no parking brake!

I spent several hours this afternoon searching both this forum, the Safari Facebook group, and the internet but have found nothing for a source or part number for this cable.

I have located a company out in Ohio called Bunker Hill Cables that fabricates custom cables. I talked with "the cable guy" there and he thinks than can help me out. didn't find him until almost closing time in Ohio (I'm in California) so I sent him photos and some information from their website containing specs on my current cables. I am fearful to find out the price of a "custom made cable!" Since it was so late out there, I will have to wait for tomorrow for additional follow-up.

Has anyone ever heard of this company, or used them?

I would appreciate any suggestions readers of the forum may have as I continue this saga! Will update the forum as I continue. .

Chuck,

Looking at the forms they had you fill out, it sure looks like a legit business. This is likely your best source for something uncommon, I actually bookmarked the company for future
As for other places that might carry the cables, try school bus garages, they use similar parts.

Received a phone call back from Bunker Hill Cables this morning. -- They can make the cable and the price is $85.00 including shipping. From what I saw online for other cables, this sounds reasonable. They will have it out in the mail tomorrow!

Anxious not to see what I get!

New cable arrived Tuesday from Bunker Hill Cables (not bad for ordering on Wednesday afternoon and memorial day holiday in the middle). It slipped in nicely. Here are some photos. Now I have a working parking brake!
