Those pumps are usually very noisy, check with a gauge and see if it builds vacuum fairly quickly. If it does, with only the gauge, but not when connected to the vacuum lines, then start looking for vacuum leaks in the system.

Here are some reasonably priced pumps at Summit Racing. The one that is priced higher, seems like much better quality, but who knows...

This is what the dash controls vacuum pump looked like on my '98. It's a little bitty thing that looks like a tiny aquarium pump. Mine was behind the dash and the way I found it was following a small air hose that was connected to a round plastic vacuum tank to the left of the heater box. The only negative about this replacement is it sounds like a little compressor putting away under the dash when it builds vacuum. I was able to quiet it down some by adding a piece of tubing to the outlet port and feeding it down through a hole in the floor.

Yours could be completely different since it a different chassis.

I have the twin. 1995 Safari Sahara. I went on a nightmare trip in 2020 long story short Its engine blew in Kansas. But she has been resurrected. New engine. Just getting it back with new brakes and a few other essentials. I am hoping to start traveling mid July. Will be heading across country from Washington state to smoky mountains. Very excited. I love traveling and this is the best way to go. I am looking for a cruise control for mine, the cable broke. You wouldn't happen to know the number for the cruise control would you? It would be a tremendous help if you did. Even if you just have a picture would be useful.
