There are 6 plug-in relays and 2 12V fuses in the Allison VIM, (vehicle interface modual).

The VIM is a black box about 5 inches square and looks like this: Image

In my '96 Sahara the VIM is mounted on the front firewall, up-under the dash, forward of the center cabinet... but it can be most anywhere in the coach.

With the cover removed the VIM looks like this: Image

There are two modules the ECU on the engine and VIM module that controls the transmission. If you look at this presentation you can see some further pictures and explanations, although Mel has posted the essential information.
