radio upgrade

Post by cgreenjr »

I have a 2000 safari zanzibar that I am reconditioning. I want to replace the stock radio with a radio of the same dimensions that has a weather band option. I have succeeded in finding said radio, and have removed the old radio. My issue is finding an adapter so i wont have to take the route of cutting into the wires. I want to leave everything as it is. If anyone can suggest where I can find one or if they even make I would really appreciate it.

Thank you all for sharing all your experiences. I have so much to learn.

The brand and model of your old radio and the new radio would be helpful. Without that information, we'd just be guessing.

Wiring harness adapters, (to mate most radios to the existing wiring in most vehicles), are available.

I took my old/original radio to Best Buy and they ordered one to fit.

Look on ebay and amazon for plug adapters. A simple way to do this is to add a plug on the MH connector, it will have a set of unterminated industry standard colour coded wires, the new radio will have a plug with the same set of wires, just use a crimp connector or merrit twist connectors. Then you don't have to cut anything. Or you may find a adapter cable like Pioneer to Sony, Ford to Sony etc. But it only takes a few minutes to match the signals. They are clearly color code and noted in the documentation.

The company that makes the wiring adapter you'll need is at: http://metraonline.com/ . Contact them for technical assistance. You'll need your new radio model. I think a lot of radios of that era were Delco.

Thank you all for your replies. I have reached to metra with vehicle info and pics. They said they could not help. I did not try best but so I may give them a shot. The Original radio was a Kenwood. Possible a krc-207s/107s. Serial #1777. The new deck is a PYLE PLDMR3U

Thanks again for all your input. It's nice to have a place to go for wisdom. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Here is first search on Amazon.com "Kenwood radio cable". I didn't pay attention to your model number so add that in the search. It is trivial to connect. See the pictures, your new radio will have a new similar cable. This takes about 20min or less to do.

The manual for the 1999 vintage Kenwood KRC-207s/107s cassette player radio is available at:

https://www.manualslib.com/download/777 ... 207s.htmll I've attached a copy to this reply.

Here's a screen capture of the connector and wiring:

Your Pyle PLDMR3U has been superseded and currently listed as "unavailable" dating back to 2012 making information hard to come by. Neither Pyle nor ManualsLib show any manuals for it. I hope it's new and you have the original documentation with it still.

Download the Kenwood manual and print page #17 to see the wiring more clearly. Good luck with your project. Soldering the wires isn't hard to do as long as you match them up correctly. Be sure you have the + and - differentiated correctly.

Thanks again. I think I will be splicing the wires together. I was hoping to find a way to keep it clean and factor. I have to say, I never had a vehicle that labeled the wires so we'll as this safari is. At least for this current project anyways. Appreciate all your knowledge.
