I am unable to start my MH with the key, I have to use the start button in the service center. This all started after my son played with the leveling system up front in the driver's compartment. All the ja KS appear to be up, and I get no warning alarm. I have checked the ignition, I get 12v whe I tur. The key to the start position. On another note, anyone know where I can get a new ignition? I royaly screwed up the threads on the housing

By looking at the key. It appears my 96 safari is a Chevrolet key. A well stocked parts house should be able to get one. Take your old one in.
You should also use test light to verify start signal is not passing through switch. If it is then check harness under dash. There is large connector that I have had problems with.

Put a new ignition in, still will not start with the key. Thinking the level system is causing issues.

Bowhunder,

My '93 Continental has a security chip under the dash (just plugged into a wired socket hanging above the throttle pedal).

If it gets just a little loose, mine won't start. I finally zip-tied mine in because it kept getting loose. Your Continental is considerably newer but might be worth a check under the dash. It kinda looks like a large blade-type fuse.

Bowhunter,

When you turn your ignition to the on position, does the Allison transmission pad light up?
With the ignition on, does you dash a/c/heater fan go on?
If neither work, it could be your ignition solenoid.

Time to get back at this, yes the Allison shift pad lights up and the fans work, i did not see a security type fuse under the dash either. I checked the main fuse breaker relay and it is working fine. I replaced the ignition again, but still not luck. At least i can still start from the back button, but man thats annoying to have to get out to start the MH.

Find the Allison VIM (black box) open it up and check the fuses inside. Also check and see if your are getting constant power into the VIM. There are two power sources that feed the VIM, one is constant power and the other is power supplied only when ignition is non. Do a search, somewhere on this sight there should be a photo of what the VIM looks like...
