Installing lithium batteries

Post by Robert K »

I am replacing my 4 gc 2 6 volt 215 Amp batteries with 4 100 Amp lithium batteries.
I am leaving the Heart 20 D inverter so only 2000 watts.
The old cables are1 gauge.
I am replacing with new cable and thinking 1-0.
I am also installing a 300 Amp class T fuse which Safari never installed a fuse to inverter.

Will see how well the Heart works with the new batteries . I have a lithium charger I can use to top them off.
Also 720 watts solar.
We have a Norcold 10 c ft 12 volt fridge and a 12volt freezer/ fridge 2 c ft and furnace in cold weather.
I will not be trying to run AC off this setup
Any thoughts or comments appreciated

I know this post is a little dated, but I just finished installing 4 lithium batteries and a Multiplus ll inverter. It’s all working well. However my 1997 Safari Sahara was not laid out to use three phase wiring (6-3 for 50amp), it only wired for 10-2 wire on a 30amp breaker. So you should not try to use both Air conditioners. When I changed out the 20 inverter I found slightly melted out line2.
I was wondering if I should run 10-2 to replace the 12-2 going to the inverter and remove the 10-2 they used as the in line and change it to the 6-3. At the moment my equipment only shows L1 , so I’m not using the second line from the park service. Any help would be appreciated.

Your coach is not wired for 3 phase, the 6/3 your are describing is (single) split phase. Your original inverter was wired to just run two circuits, not the whole coach, that is why you have only two circuit runs of 12/2. Check your inbox, I sent you a PM.

Is it possible to upgrade the power box so I can get true 50 amp service?

Your power box is already 50amp service capable, it is just a matter of connecting properly to your inverter. Please check your inbox and see my note that I sent you...

I am located in Washington state and the inverter/charger I installed is the Victron Energy MultiPlus-II, 12v 3000va 120amp.
Thanks for your help in figuring this out.

Is the inverter you bought this model? [MultiPlus-II 2x120V Inverter/Charger], that has the dual 120v pass through capability to accommodate 50amp split phase shore power?

If it is not a 2X120 inverter, but a single 120v inverter, it will be difficult and limiting to adapt it to your 50amp split phase coach panel. If it is 2X120 capable, then it will be fairly simple and straight forward to wire in the inverter for it to be able to power your 50amp main panel.

Do you have an automatic transfer switch similar to what is shown in the photo? If you can, please post a photo of your inverter compartment, so I can see how it is set up.
