‘94 Serengeti Caliper/Pad Part Numbers (front/rear)

Post by Black94Safari »

Hello,

I am hoping to connect with someone who has replace calipers and pads on a Magnum Chasssis, Cummins Safari.

1994 and earlier is tricky 🥴

Please see pics below. Rear caliper casting is stamped 0578 Front caliper is Bendix 180401, I think...

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks!

I would suggest taking the calipers and pads to NAPA, they should be able to match the proper parts for you...

I did the fronts on my '93 Continental a few months ago and mine look very, very similar to yours... but not exact. Also, your hubs look IDENTICAL -- as do the disc. Soooo... you might try O'Reilly's and see if what they have will bolt-on to your caliper bracket. The bracket (from the one pic you posted) looks just like mine and the spring/retainer thing looks the same, too. O'Reilly's has free returns, so you can just take them back if they don't fit. Or take yours with you when you go and compare the bolt holes (where they mount on the bracket).

My rig has a Magnum Chassis decal on the back, but it's actually an Oshkosh chassis.

Here are the part numbers from O'Reilly's. If you're a veteran they give you 10% off, too!

Caliper:
97-17011D ($71.00)

Pads:
MKD184 ($54.99)

Lee,

That is correct, '93 was the last year for the Oshkosh chassis, in '94 they started manufacturing their own Magnum chassis. As for Allison 6spd transmission, that got phased into RVs in '93. Even some of the low end Safaris in '93 still came with the Allison 4spd. So for most brands '93 model year was the transition year, after that point they were 6spd until some of the lighter duty Allison transmission started being utilized in the light wight class A RVs.

Your brake master cylinder likely has a remote reservoir setup (brake fluid reservoir should be located in your front access panel by your fuse boxes). If that is the case, you need to make sure you order the proper master cylinder or otherwise you will be stuck with crawling under your coach each time you need to check you fluid.

Here is an outfit that builds master cylinders and Hydromax systems that our coaches use, I would give him a call. One of my fellow Safari owners just purchased the whole assembly from him as his electric motor on the hydromax conked out and so did the master cylinder, so he decided to change it as one unit. Good quality product that is make in America. Napa's master cylinders like most everyone else, is make in China, so you get what you pay for.

Here is a link to an actual remote reservoir cylinder he sells, so you know what it looks like.

Here is a second link to the same outfit, showing all sorts of different brake products he sells. He can custom build when needed. Not to many of those type of outfits left anymore...

If you can get a photo of the part number stamped on the side of the master cylinder that faces the frame that should give enough info to go on.

If you have more questions send me a PM
